The effect of a curb gag is comparable to that of a gag bit, but it is different. The pressure is on the lower jaw, not behind the ears. The cheekpieces are joined to the extra ring at the top by a thread that runs under the chin. This bit is mostly used by showjumpers and is ideal for strong, hot horses. For beginner riders, this bit is not recommended.
